چکیده

We study mechanical behavior of soft rubber-like digital materials used in Polyjet multimaterial 3D-printing to create deformable composite materials and flexible structures. These soft digital materials are frequently treated as linear elastic materials in the literature. However, our experiments clearly show that these materials exhibit significant non-linearities under large strain regime. Moreover, the materials demonstrate pronounced rate-dependent behavior. In particular, their instantaneous moduli as well as ultimate strain and stress significantly depend on the strain rate. To take into account both hyperand viscoelasticity phenomena, we employ the Quasi-Linear Viscoelastic (QLV) model with instantaneous Yeoh strain-energy density function. We show that the QLV-Yeoh model accurately describes the mechanical behavior of the majority of the soft digital materials under uniaxial tension. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Multimaterial magnetically assisted 3D printing of composite materials

3D printing has become commonplace for the manufacturing of objects with unusual geometries. Recent developments that enabled printing of multiple materials indicate that the technology can potentially offer a much wider design space beyond unusual shaping. Here we show that a new dimension in this design space can be exploited through the control of the orientation of anisotropic particles use...

Polymers for 3D Printing and Customized Additive Manufacturing

Additive manufacturing (AM) alias 3D printing translates computer-aided design (CAD) virtual 3D models into physical objects. By digital slicing of CAD, 3D scan, or tomography data, AM builds objects layer by layer without the need for molds or machining. AM enables decentralized fabrication of customized objects on demand by exploiting digital information storage and retrieval via the Internet...

Multimaterial 4D Printing with Tailorable Shape Memory Polymers

We present a new 4D printing approach that can create high resolution (up to a few microns), multimaterial shape memory polymer (SMP) architectures. The approach is based on high resolution projection microstereolithography (PμSL) and uses a family of photo-curable methacrylate based copolymer networks. We designed the constituents and compositions to exhibit desired thermomechanical behavior (...
